Description

Two Way Thinners No 1

A hardworking general-purpose thinner that earns its place in any workshop. Two Way Thinners No 1 is a clear, fast-evaporating solvent blend made right here in Auckland. Use it to thin compatible paints and lacquers back to a workable consistency, then turn around and use the same tin to flush out spray guns, brushes, rollers and lines — that’s the “two way” in the name, and it’s why tradies keep it on the shelf.

Why It Works

  • Dual-purpose formula – thins paint for spraying or brushing, and doubles as an equipment cleaner, so one product covers both jobs.
  • Balanced solvent blend – formulated with fast and medium-evaporating solvents (including acetone, isopropyl alcohol and toluene) for smooth flow-out and a quick return to service.
  • Clear, colourless liquid – won’t cloud or tint light-coloured coatings when used as directed.
  • Low residue clean-up – cuts through wet paint residue in guns, tips and brushes before it has a chance to set.
  • Made in New Zealand – blended in Auckland, New Zealand, with local support and supply.

Typical Uses

  • Thinning spray-applied paints, lacquers and primers to the correct viscosity
  • Cleaning spray guns, airless tips, hoses and paint lines after use
  • Washing brushes and rollers used with solvent-borne coatings
  • General workshop degreasing and wipe-down of tools and equipment

Always check your paint manufacturer’s data sheet first — not every coating is compatible with a general-purpose thinner, and water-based paints should never be thinned with solvent.

Handling & Storage

Two Way Thinners No 1 is a highly flammable solvent. Keep it away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces, use it outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, and store the container tightly closed in a cool, ventilated spot. Wear PVC-coated gloves and safety glasses when handling, and keep it locked up and out of reach of children. Full details are in the Safety Data Sheet — read it before first use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Two Way Thinners in water-based (acrylic) paint?

No. This is a solvent-based thinner. Water-borne paints should only be thinned with water or the manufacturer’s recommended additive.

Will it clean dried paint out of a spray gun?

It shifts wet and recently applied paint well. Fully cured coatings may need soaking or a stronger specialty cleaner — flush equipment straight after spraying for the easiest clean-up.

Is it the same as mineral turpentine?

No. Two Way Thinners is a blended solvent that’s faster-evaporating and stronger-cutting than straight turps, which makes it better suited to lacquers and spray equipment cleaning.

Do you supply bulk quantities?

Yes — the 20L drum suits trade and industrial users, and the 1L comes in cartons of 12. Get in touch for volume pricing.
