Designed specifically for the demands of theatrical and scenic production, this unique water-based acrylic primer bonds securely to almost any surface you throw at it. It creates a durable, water-resistant foundation that grips tight, ensuring your topcoats look brilliant and stay put—even under the heavy wear and tear of a live production.

Quick Drying for Fast Turnarounds: In a fast-paced shop, drying time matters. At 75°F (24°C), Tough Prime dries to the touch in just 30 to 45 minutes and is ready for a recoat in 1 to 2 hours.
Two Essential Finishes:
- White (Satin Finish): The perfect neutral base for vibrant, true-color topcoats.
- Black (Egg-Shell Finish): Ideal for stage floors, proscenium arches, and masking. It resists scuffs and abrasions while delivering a rich, deep black finish that absorbs light beautifully.
Easy Application & Cleanup: Apply it straight from the can using a brush, roller, or spray gun. Because it’s a water-based acrylic polymer, cleanup requires nothing more than simple soap and water.

How to Use Tough Prime

For the best results, ensure your surface is clean, dry, and free of grease or dirt. If you’re painting over high-gloss or solvent-based finishes, a quick scuff with fine sandpaper or steel wool will give the primer extra “tooth” to grab onto.

Stir the primer thoroughly (do not shake) and apply in even, uniform coats. To build a highly durable finish for high-traffic areas like stage floors, apply several thin coats rather than one heavy layer, allowing each coat to dry completely in between.

Note: Do not apply when temperatures are below 50°F (10°C). Keep from freezing.
