Most painters forget about the after-effects of a job. Why not make the most of your equipment? Cleaning paint brushes and rollers can take a minimal amount of time.

Cleaning your paint brush:
It is very important to clean your paint brush straight after using it. Do not soak them in thinners or water, as this can damage the bristles significantly.

Step 1: Remove any excess paint by wiping on a clean disposable surface.

Step 2: Pour the solvent into a container. (To find the right solvent to clean your brush with, have a look on the back of the paint can you were using. Mineral turpentine or paint thinners are for cleaning paint brushes used for paint and varnish, while methylated spirits are for cleaning ones used by shellac.)

Step 3: Dip your brush into the solvent. Work the thinner through the brush bristles by dipping in and down of the container.

Step 4: Spin the brush to remove excess thinner and then repeat the process with a clean container and clean thinner.

Cleaning water-based enamel paints from your paint brush are very easy. Just use warm water and mild soap suds. Simply dip your paint brush into soapy water in a clean container and work the soap through the brush bristles. Then follow with a clear water rinse. Repeat this process if necessary.

When taking a break: Wrap your paint brush or roller in plastic wrap to prevent the paint from drying on them when you aren’t using it. Or clean them completely.
