Description
CUTEK® Mould Cleaner: Professional Timber Mould Removal Concentrate
Revive your timber surfaces and prepare them for long-lasting protection with the CUTEK® Mould Cleaner. Designed specifically for the harsh realities of outdoor wood care, this professional-grade concentrate powerfully kills mould, removes stubborn organic stains, and lightly brightens your timber. Whether you are restoring a weathered deck, cleaning timber cladding, or preparing outdoor furniture for a fresh coat of oil, this environmentally minded solution delivers exceptional results without the harshness of traditional chlorine bleaches.
Unlike standard deck cleaners that merely wash away surface dirt, the CUTEK® Mould Cleaner penetrates the wood to eradicate mould at its source. It utilizes a safe, chlorine-free oxygen bleach formula that effectively sterilizes the substrate. This crucial step ensures that when you apply your final protective coating—such as CUTEK® Extreme CD50 or CUTEK® Wood Preservative—the oil can penetrate deeply and perform optimally, free from underlying fungal interference.
Why Choose CUTEK® Mould Cleaner?
When dealing with outdoor timber, mould is more than just an eyesore; it is a persistent issue that can compromise the integrity of your wood and ruin the finish of your protective oils. The CUTEK® Mould Cleaner stands out as a premium choice for both DIY enthusiasts and trade professionals for several key reasons.
First and foremost is its powerful, targeted action. The formula is specifically engineered to kill mould and remove organic contaminants from a wide variety of substrates. While it is highly effective on all timber species, it is also suitable for cleaning painted surfaces prior to maintenance coats. As it cleans, it provides a subtle brightening effect, restoring the natural appeal of your wood without the aggressive bleaching associated with chlorine-based products.
Safety and environmental responsibility are at the core of this product. The chlorine-free oxygen bleach formula is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. This means you can confidently clean your deck or cladding without worrying about introducing highly toxic chemicals into your garden or surrounding environment. When used as directed, and with appropriate rinsing, it is a responsible choice for outdoor maintenance.
Furthermore, this concentrate is incredibly economical. A single 300g tub makes 10 litres of powerful cleaning solution. With a recommended dilution ratio of 1:10 (300g of powder to 10L of water), a single batch provides an impressive coverage of 50 to 80 square meters, depending on the porosity and condition of your timber. A little truly goes a long way, making it a cost-effective solution for large decking projects or extensive exterior cladding.
How to Use CUTEK® Mould Cleaner
Achieving a professional result is straightforward when you follow the correct preparation and application steps. Always begin by testing the product on a small, inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility with your specific timber species.
Step 1: Preparation and Mixing
Start by sweeping your deck or brushing your cladding to remove any loose dirt, leaves, and surface debris. To prepare the solution, dissolve the entire 300g contents of the CUTEK® Mould Cleaner into 10 litres of water. Using warm water will help the powder dissolve more efficiently. Stir the mixture thoroughly until all the powder has completely dissolved. Please note that once mixed, the active oxygen bleach solution must be used within one hour for maximum efficacy.
Step 2: Application
Using a garden pump sprayer or a soft-bristle broom, generously saturate the timber with the cleaning solution. Once applied, use a stiff-bristle broom to thoroughly scrub the area, always working in the direction of the wood grain. This agitation helps the cleaner penetrate the pores of the wood and lift the mould.
Allow the solution to sit and work its magic on the timber for at least 15 minutes. It is critical that you do not let the solution dry on the wood during this time. If you are working on a hot day or in direct sunlight, you may need to lightly mist the area with more solution and continue agitating to keep it wet.
Step 3: Removal and Rinsing
After the 15-minute dwell time, give the surface one final scrub with your broom to loosen the contaminants. The most effective way to remove the cleaner and the lifted mould is by washing it off with a high-pressure washer. Set your pressure washer to approximately 50 bar (750 psi) and use a fan jet pattern to avoid damaging the wood fibers. Alternatively, a high-pressure nozzle on a standard garden hose combined with vigorous scrubbing can also be effective.
When cleaning vertical surfaces like cladding, always start from the highest point and work your way down methodically using long, even strokes. If you are cleaning softwoods, be sure to reduce your water pressure or increase the distance of the nozzle from the wood to prevent damaging the softer sapwood. Never use “turbojet” nozzles on timber.
Step 4: Drying and Protection
If stubborn stains remain after the first wash, a second application may be necessary. For specific issues like iron stains or severe weathering, you may need to follow up with CUTEK® Restore.
Once your timber is completely clean and free of mould, you must allow it to dry thoroughly before applying any protective oils. The wood should have a moisture content of less than 17%, which typically takes 2 to 3 days of good drying weather. Once dry, protect your investment with a high-quality penetrating oil like CUTEK® Extreme CD50 to ensure long-lasting beauty and defense against the elements.
